Decluttering Your Home Before Baby Arrives

Posted on March 24, 2016 in Articles

Whether you are a first time mom-to-be or you are expecting your 5th bundle of joy, decluttering is a great way to prepare for the arrival of a new baby in your home. While some moms feel the need to roll up their sleeves and get an early head start, others may prefer to wait until the third trimester to get organized. No matter when you decide to declutter your place, these tips will help you get everything ready for baby.

Create a plan

It is always a good idea to have a decluttering game plan before you get started. Take a few moments to visualize how your space looks now, and imagine what changes you will need to tackle in order to accommodate your newborn. I recommend organizing the areas of the home you and your baby will be spending the most amount of time in first—your bedroom, the living room, the changing area, etc. Then move on from there.

Once you have mapped out what you plan to do, tackle one room at a time. Try to avoid jumping from one room to another. Stick in one area and cross it off your to-do list when you are done. Slow and steady wins the race.

Clear out what you don’t need

Do you really need all those extra winter coats hanging in the closet? The arrival of a baby is the perfect time to re-evaluate what items in your house should stay and what can go. Remember that baby’s diapers, clothes, toys, crib, and a stroller are going to take up space, so you will probably want to make as much room as you can.

Figure out what you can give away—or store away. And hey, if you want to make some extra money for some new baby gear (and if you have the time), you can always try and sell your unwanted items to a consignment store or post them on a classifieds website such as Craigslist.

Decluttering and organizing your home for the arrival of your little guy or girl can seem daunting. After all, you still have appointments, work, and other preparations to keep up with. You don’t have to go it alone. If you need help getting rid of your unwanted items during this joyous and hectic time, give 604-TRASH-IT a call today.
